Hello Monday’s – Point of View

img_2781.jpgLife from the mountaintops is pretty impressive compared to seeing it from the valley.  When I started writing this post, we were in the Catskills and the view was spectacular, you could see far and wide.  Not that being in the valley the view isn’t beautiful as well.  Being on ground level looking up is very different than being on top looking out. These are two incredible perspectives, yet vastly different.

In my opinion, we need both views to appreciate the view from the top.  I have found that in my life, I appreciate the amazing mountaintops all the more, because I have walked and or climbed through the valley to reach the top of the mountain.

Hiking

I’m not a mountain climber technically; I don’t use any special equipment or anything like that.  I like to hike and be outdoors.  So, I follow trails that are already broken by others that have gone before me.  Sometimes that leads to mountaintops and I love the view from there.  I don’t like heights very much so looking down as I’m going up, or even once I’ve gotten to the top, can be scary.  I keep my focus on the prize and once I’m there I’m glad I reached the top.  Now of course, going back down isn’t much fun, especially for me as I’m blind in one eye and my depth perception is way off.  I’m sure I freak out the people I’m with, because I just don’t see that well and I miss my step a lot or take these huge steps, because it’s what looks right to me.

Perception has to do with how we see ourselves, others and everything around us.  Perspective depends on what we see and how we relate to it.  It all comes down to “point of view” doesn’t it?

ENCOURAGEMENT

Question Marks Over Man Shows Confusion And Uncertainty

Question Marks Confusion And Uncertainty

I don’t know if you’re like me, but I hate to be wrong.  I really don’t like messing up!  I make a lot of mistakes when it comes to words.  My brain sometimes processes faster than the words that are coming out of my mouth, so, I just either say the wrong word or I can’t get the right word out.  This can be extremely frustrating, because I either have people laughing at me or looking at me like I’ve completely lost it.  Admittedly, sometimes I have, the words are there, but I really struggle to get them out.

I want to be encouraging and have a word of encouragement on my lips all the time.  That can be so difficult for me at times.  My heart is in the right place, but the words just aren’t there or I can’t express them the right way!  When that happens I feel so inadequate and I should just not say anything, because I know that I’m just going to mess up and people are going to laugh at me and/or think I’m stupid.  This is how I feel about myself when I can’t get my words to come out the way I planned.  Not that I need to be perfect, although I can be a perfectionist sometimes.  Maybe it’s that I don’t like being laughed at or feeling stupid.  I’m a literal person and I’ve been told that I have no “sense of humor” and I take things “too seriously”.  The bottom line is I should lighten up and not be so hard on myself!

I shouldn’t take it personally, because I know that it comes down to “point of view”.  I really can’t help the “brain fog”, it’s just something that happens, but I fight through it and keep going.  We all go through things that are hard to fight through and keep going.  I don’t mean to downplay anything that you might be going through I just hope you surround yourself with people that pick you up when you are down and cheer you on!

LOVE

When you are going through difficult times and it’s hard to put things in perspective, take a breath and be still.  By taking some time to breathe, you just might discover a sense of peace.  We all go through hard stuff.  Maybe it has to do with finances, relationships, employment or health issues. Life happens and facing what gets thrown at us head on can be daunting.

I have an amazing husband, family and very close friends that are my “go to” people.  They have been with me through some of the most difficult life challenges ever.  They pick me up when I am down.  Because I know they love me, I can face anything.  I can call on them anytime of the day or night and they will be there for me.

My hope for you is that you have people like this in your life and that they love you beyond measure!  You are precious and what you go through matters to those around you.  Whether you think people care or not, I know that they do. People don’t always know how to express themselves when their loved ones are going through horrible and awful things. Be patient they too are going through this with you and are concerned and really want to help.
